Data Centre Technician X 3 (1 Year Fixed Term Contract)

Key areas of Responsibilities:

  • Acting as technical resource on internal and external projects
  • Resolving issues that arise on the CORETX’s DC estate or within customer colocation environments
  • Working with our Platforms and Networks team to ensure the smooth running of our DC environment
  • Performing maintenance on the CORETX DC estate, or customer infrastructure out of hours as required
  • Provisioning new services or customers within our environment
  • Supporting other staff members with DC issues
  • Reporting to the Head of Datacentres regarding problems or issues detected
  • Monitoring and managing tickets within the CORETX systems in response to raised alarms or customer requests
  • Assist in the management and resolution of tasks on the DC risk register

Objectives:

  • Ensure continued smooth operation of the DC Estate
  • Aid other team members on the DC Estate
  • Maintain the professional reputation of the department to our clients
  • Work towards developing client relations and thus developing their enterprise environments
  • Work with the rest of the department to ensure that we remain on-curve for developing our services and performing improvement works

 

Experience/Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Technical, analytical and interpersonal skills required for Implementation, Troubleshooting and Project work
  • Basic Network knowledge including accessing and running basic commands on Cisco and Juniper devices
  • Basic Networking and cabling skills. Cable skills includes making up CAT5E / 6 Patch leads and testing. Fibre and UTP patching systems including the differences in Single Mode and Multi Mode Fibre
  • Understand the difference between Tier1 – Tier4 Datacentres
  • Knowledge of CRAC units, Fire Suppression systems, UPS, Generators, how they all fit together in the data hall and the basic design
  • Experience of Rack design and layout out, either Communications Room or DC experience including the requirements for A and B power feeds
  • Understanding of hot and cold airflow containment
  • Knowledge of the Datacentre stack and the different services supplied from datacentre estate
  • Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a busy business environment
  • Availability in response to needs of the customer for installation, maintenance and equipment malfunctions

Desirable:

  • Working towards or obtained CCNA
  • Aware of the TIA942 standard. Cooling standard ASHREA and power standard BS7671
  • Experience using APC monitoring platforms or other similar product
